A Wellness Q&A

How do I start meditating?

Just start. It truly is that simple. Lately I have really been enjoying putting on some instrumental music and just taking long, deep breaths for 10-15 minutes. Start with five minutes if that is too long. Experiment with different styles - silence, mantra, using an app (Insight Timer is a good one), breathwork. Also know that some days will be easier than others.

I have been seeing it everywhere, do I need to be drinking greens powder too?

Absolutely not. If you like it, drink it, otherwise save your money.

Best advice for how to change a habit?

This could definitely be an entire post, but the number one piece of advice would be to focus on consistency versus perfection. Whatever you are trying to change, know that you will probably slip up so account for that and accept it. If you are trying to workout more, focus on showing up most days and doing some sort of movement, instead of planning to workout seven days a week for an hour and feeling bad if you do not meet your goals. Keep showing up even if it is not perfect.

Favorite leggings?

Lululemon of course. I love Ultracor for sweaty workouts and am intrigued by LNDR leggings (but haven’t fully tested them yet).

Most underrated wellness habit?

Sleep. And I am not sure it is close. The difference that getting a good night’s sleep makes is truly unbelievable and it is something that we all are guilty of overlooking.

Best protein powder?

I have been loving Promix whey protein isolate lately (especially the vanilla flavor)

How to keep on track when traveling?

The million dollar question. I think the key is finding a balance between enjoying yourself and sticking to your healthy habits so that you can come back to your everyday life feeling refreshed and fulfilled but also still feeling good. I like to pick two habits and stick to those throughout - usually it is some sort of movement and meditating - while letting some of my other routines slide a little and feeling okay about that. Moderation is key!

What would you tell your 20 year old self?

Oh man, another good idea for a full post! I would say my biggest piece of advice would be that not everyone is going to like you and making yourself small to satisfy those people is a pointless and unfulfilling exercise. Embrace everything that makes you you and do not be afraid to show that to the world. Do not concern yourself with the opinions of people who do not matter.

West coast or east coast?

An unfair question! East coast spring/summer, west coast fall/winter :)
