Leap Into Faith

I am not sure if you noticed the date today but it may look a little weird.

February 29 only comes around once every four years and while it seems like just a silly quirk of our calendar, it actually serves a very important purpose (which I won’t bore you with here, but if you are a nerd, go read about it).

As I saw the calendar and that the last leap day happened in 2020, it got me thinking about what was happening then and all that has occurred in the last few years. Obviously four years ago was right before the start of the pandemic so it has been a particularly eventful time, but even on a personal level, it can be somewhat mind-blowing to look back at all that has changed and happened.

If you had told me on February 29, 2020 where I would be and what I would be doing on February 29, 2024, I would be very intrigued, but also very confused as to how it all came together.

And that is the beauty (and sometimes scary part) of life, isn’t it? You can really only put the pieces together and see how it all unfolded looking back.

It requires lots of little, and sometimes big, leaps of faith along the way without knowing where it will lead you. Surrendering to the unknown and having faith that it will all work out one way or another.

The truth is that so much of life is unknown. Even when we try to fight against it and create as much “certainty” that we can. Embracing that fact can make leaping into the unknown and stepping outside our comfort zone a little bit easier. As can trusting that even failures, heartbreaks and disappointments are a big part of the story that led you to where you are today and where you are going.

If you can, spend some time today or this weekend looking back to four years ago. What has changed for you since February 29, 2020? What leaps of faith have you taken in that time? And where would you like to be on the next leap year, February 29, 2028?
