How to have a healthy vacation
There is nothing better than a well deserved vacation. Relaxing on a beach or jetting off to a foreign country can provide the perfect way to relax and de-stress. Yet we have all been there - we let our usual habits fall by the wayside and get back from a vacation feeling exhausted, bloated, and sleep deprived.
It doesn’t have to be one or another, there is a way to fully enjoy your vacation, but also keep some healthy habits in order to feel like yourself when you come back. Keep reading for some simple and easy ways to stay healthy while on vacation.
Drink plenty of water
Staying hydrated is one of the most important things you can do for your health, whether you are on vacation or just in your everyday life. Bring a reusable water bottle with you and fill it up any chance you get. Staying hydrated will help you feel better, keep your energy high, and improve digestion.
Walk everywhere
Exploring by foot is one of the best ways to get to know your new location. Skip the cab or rental car and walk everywhere that you can. You will get in some added exercise and get a better feel for your locale.
Continue your healthy habits
Just because you are in a different location doesn’t mean that you should stop all your usual habits. Cut down your usual routine to your favorite habits and continue that while you are away. Whether it is meditating, exercising, journaling, pick at least one of your everyday habits to continue while you are on vacation.
Bring some healthy comforts from home
There are certain things I always bring with me when I travel to help me feel my best - green tea, certain supplements, chlorophyll drops, and a couple protein bars. Don’t be afraid to bring some of your favorite things along with you and be prepared when you arrive at your destination.
Eat your vegetables
Vacations usually involve a lot of eating out, and one of my favorite healthy eating hacks at restaurants is to always order a vegetable dish of some sort and eat it first. It can be a salad, veggie omelet, or just a side of steamed vegetables. Vegetables help to fill you up and are filled with good for you vitamins and minerals.
Try to pick alcohol or dessert
Alcohol and dessert are often what trips people up when they are on vacation and makes them feel less than their best. A helpful rule is to try to pick either alcohol or dessert at a meal and not have both.
