Good > Perfect
This last week, I have been perfectly executing all my wellness habits.
I worked out for over an hour everyday, I cooked most of my own meals, I meditated for my full fifteen minute routine, I performed my mobility exercises, I even did a nice wind down routine.
You get it - I was the picture of those wellness day in the life videos.
But if you had seen me a couple weeks ago, it would have looked very different.
I traveled to three different cities in the span of ten days and my workouts were 30 minutes of doing what I could piece together with whatever equipment was available, I was eating at restaurants for every meal, I snuck in five minutes of meditation in the bathroom, and forget about any sort of evening routine.
Was it perfect? Absolutely not.
Did I still manage to do most of it? Yes I did.
You have probably heard the saying - “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good”
We often get caught up in wanting to do the perfect thing. The best workout plan. Write the perfect article. Follow the ultimate nutrition plan.
That is all well and good when we have the time, energy, and motivation, but as soon as life inevitably gets in the way, it becomes too easy to throw it all away.
Or we become paralyzed by inaction and not being able to meet our own unrealistic expectations.
Instead of trying to do the perfect thing, try to just do the thing consistently. Run one mile. Meditate for two minutes. Focus on getting enough protein.
Think about your goals and what small, consistent action steps you can take to help accomplish them.
You will get much further prioritizing imperfect action over perfection.
I mean this post is probably not the best thing I have ever written, but hey, at least it is done :)
