Why You Should Travel

I am writing this from across the pond where I am spending a week in my favorite city, London.

Ever since I spent a semester here in college, I have loved just about everything about London. The ability to walk everywhere, the history, the ease of their public transportation system, the museums, the amazing restaurants, the architecture, just to name a few. And this time I have discovered their delicious coffee. All of which has me wondering if it is possible to do a semester abroad as an adult…

Anyway, as we were wandering around the city the other day, my friend made a comment about how traveling to a different place can make you feel like a kid again. And she is right. As much as I enjoy going back to California, I have realized that there is something special about traveling to a new place or somewhere you don’t go to very often.
And she is right. As much as I enjoy going back to California, I have realized that there is something special about traveling to a new place or somewhere you don’t go to very often. The ability to experience new things and go to new places is a unique experience that we should all try to do more often.

See below for five reasons to book your next flight!

Forces You Outside Your Comfort Zone. No matter where we live, eventually we all become very accustomed to it and get into some sort of routine. We have our favorite restaurants, our go-to coffee shop, and probably usually take the same route to get where we have to go. There is a certain pleasure that comes with that, but it takes effort to do something different in our everyday lives. On the other hand, when you are traveling, everything is new! You are forced to go to places that you have never been before and figure out the public transportation system and just do things that push you out of your usual comfort zone.

Fosters Creativity. One of the best ways to increase your creativity is to do something different. Since traveling constantly exposes you to new places and people, it can foster creativity in a way that everyday life does not. The next time you are on a trip, try to carve out time to work on whatever creative project you desire. You might just find that you have an extra dose of inspiration!

Allows You To Experience Awe. We live in a big world and there are so many breathtaking sights and sounds out there. But even if you are not taking a trip to see the Northern Lights or Grand Canyon, it is still possible to just be amazed by the normal everyday life in a different place. You are not used to what you are seeing and doing so you are forced to see everything with fresh eyes and experience a sense of awe.

It Is Good For You. It can sometimes seem very stressful to travel, and sure, there is often a little stress that comes with planning and there is nothing worse than a travel delay, but once you are on your trip, that all fades away and you will probably experience less stress and more happiness.

Expands Time. Have you ever looked back on your year and thought what exactly did I do this year? Well doing new things is one of the best ways to make time seem like it is expanding. You often are packing so many novel experiences into a day that it breaks up the monotony of normal life and makes it seem like time has expanded.
