What type of cook are you?
Two types of cooks…
I have gotten a few questions about my favorite recipes and when I am going to start sharing recipes on here. While I love cooking and will definitely be sharing some meal ideas, you will probably not be getting any precise recipes from me anytime soon.
Why not? Because I don’t follow them or use them!
I think of recipes as more of a loose guide and am usually adding/subtracting based on some random combination of what I am feeling in the moment, what I have in my kitchen, and what I actually like. It can lead to some great (and very occasionally not so great) results, but also makes things very hard to reproduce exactly.
I realize to some of you that this is hard to fathom. You love your recipes and believe that they are there to be followed.
Which leads me to my conclusion about the two types of cooks -
1. Those that are like me – add their own flair to any recipe, throw in a little of that, a little of this, have no real idea of any ingredient amounts and what they ended up cooking
2. Those that follow recipes to the letter, will not cook something if they do not have every ingredient, big fan of measuring cups and spoons (these people are also usually excellent bakers)
I especially learned this when I used to cook with an old boyfriend who would be semi appalled every time I did my freewheeling thing in the kitchen and ignored everything the recipe said (needless to say, we are no longer together… ;) ). I could not (and still cannot) fathom following a recipe exactly and not putting my unique spin on it.
But to those of you who are recipe followers, good for you and I am sure that you get a great dish every single time. Also I will take some of those yummy baked goods you make (baking is obviously not my strength )
