2022 Reflection Activity
Can you believe that we are coming to the end of the year? How was 2022 for you?
Reflecting on this past year can be extremely helpful as we look towards next year. So often, we become really busy and overwhelmed at this time of year, and suddenly it is a new year and we just throw out some random resolutions that we end up abandoning within a few weeks.
Instead, try taking some time to really think about the past twelve months - the good and the bad, the things that lit you up and the things you would have changed. Intentionally slowing down, getting quiet, and looking at our year can help determine if we are on a path we want to be on or if we want to make some changes.
At some point over the next few weeks, grab a journal, carve out thirty minutes for yourself, and try the activity below. I promise you it will help set you up for success in 2023!
Get quiet, close your eyes, and think about your year.
Write down your answers to the following questions:
What went well this year?
What did not go well this year?
What are you most proud of?
What did you learn?
How did you grow?
What were your biggest challenges?
What would you have changed?
What were your highlights?
What are you grateful for from this year?
What do you want to leave in 2022?
How would you summarize this year?
Is there a word or phrase that sums up the year for you?
After writing it all out, how do you feel about your year?
You do not have to answer every question and if there are other things that come up, write about them too. Try to write for at least fifteen minutes.
When you are done writing, read back through your answers and notice any themes or common threads.
Now turn your attention to next year. Close your eyes and imagine it is December 2023. How do you want to feel? What do you want to have accomplished? Write down your answers.
Finally, think about what small action steps you can take to accomplish those goals and feel that way in a year. Write those down - those will be your resolutions.
Reflecting on your year and where you have been and becoming more intentional about where you want to go will have a powerful impact on your life. This exercise does not take a long time and I challenge you to find thirty minutes for yourself to do it and end your year with more presence.
